Somiedo is waiting for you
Somiedo is the protected area that best represents the natural and ethnographic values of the Asturian mountains in Spain. Its broken territory, with deep valleys and peaks over 2,000 meters, constitutes one of the wildest and best preserved mountain environments. Its landscape is home to all the diversity of geological substrata of the Cantabrian Mountains and the best sample of mountain lakes in all of Spain, with the exception of the Pyrenees. Extensive deciduous forests of beech, oak, birch, and other Atlantic species, and a community of fauna with the presence of such representative species as bear, wolf, chamois, roe deer, marten, capercaillie, black woodpecker…, give this place a character exceptional and unique.

The Somiedo Nature Park is a sanctuary for species including the wolf, the chamois, the golden eagle, the otter, the fox, etc., and organized outings for the sighting of wild animals are increasingly requested due, among other factors, to the increasingly frequent encounters with the Cantabrian brown bear.
